Newly opened in Fall 2006, University Square is the newest additon to the Rutgers University-Newark Residential Campus. Located on the corner of Central and University Avenues, next to Woodward Hall, University Square is conveniently located amdist the University community. Accommodating nearly 600 upperclass and graduate students, University Square is the first new University housing facility built on the Newark campus in 16 years.
The first floor of Univeristy Square houses a variety of retail space all aimed at the unique nees od students. The first floor also hosts a multipurpose room and security station that is staffed with a security officer 24 hours, 7 days a week. At the security station, there are interior and exterior cameras, phone access to University Police, as well as a computerized guest system where residencts can choose to register their guests in advance or at the security desk.
The inner courtyard provides a connection to Stonsby Commons, Woodward Hall, Talbott Apartments, and the rest of the Rutgers Newark campus. The courtyard offers a great socail environment for residents and guests. Many residents can utilize this space for games, eating, and great discussion. Residents also enter the courtyard through Bleeker Street during the move-in and move-out process, as well as everyday access to the building.
The 2 bedroom apartments are designed to accommdate 4 undergraduate students. The apartment have wall to wall carpeting and teh bedrooms and furnished with b abed, desk , dresser, and closet per student. There is a shared living room, kitchen, and bathroom, within each apartment. The living room provides carpeting for a homey environment, while the bathroom and kitchen are tiled. A full refrigerator, microwave over, stove, and plenty of cabinet and counter space are included in the kitchen. The spacious living room is furnished wsith a dinette set and group seating for the entire apartment. Residents will find the apartment design conducive to interacting with roommates, as well as personal time. Each apartment has indvidula tempedrature control, and access to cavle television and telphone service.
Floors 12 and 13 are set up to provide priotity housing to graduate students. Each apartment has 3 large bedrooms that are carpeted and furnished with a bed, desk, dresser, and closet. There is a shared kitchen and bathroom, which are tiled. A full refrigeratyor, microwave oven, and stove are included in teh kitchen. Double sinks are provided in the bathroom area, but are sepater for mte hfull bathub, shower, and toilet for convenience. Each apartment also has individual heating and a/c temperature control, and access to cable televison and telephone service. Student have ample space for personal and group study, as well as an environment for socializing.
