Newly opened in Fall 2006, University Square is the newest addition to the Rutgers University-Newark Residential Campus. Located on the corner of Central and University Avenues, next to Woodward Hall, University Square is conveniently located amidst the University community. Accommodating nearly 600 upper-class and graduate students, University Square is the first new University housing facility built on the Newark campus in 16 years.
The first floor of University Square houses a variety of retail space all aimed at the unique needs of the students. The first floor also hosts a multipurpose room and security station that is staffed with a security officer 24 hours, 7 days a week. At the security station, there are interior and exterior cameras, phone access to University Police, as well as a computerized guest system where residents can choose to register their guests in advance or at the security desk.
The inner courtyard provides a connection to Stonsby Commons, Woodward Hall, Talbott Apartments, and the rest of the Rutgers Newark campus. The courtyard offers a great social environment for residents and guests. Many residents can utilize this space for games, eating, and great discussion. Residents also enter the courtyard through Bleeker Street during the move-in and move-out process, as well as everyday access to the building.
